Back in May, on my first proper visit to Italia, bleary-eyed and befuddled after a nearly 20-hour journey involving 3 planes and then a 45-minute train ride from Malatesta to Milano Centrale, I got on the wrong train. I was meant to get on the train to Parma, but instead got on the high-speed train on the other side of the platform. It turned out that its final destination was Salerno. Of course I got off at the first stop, but after reading this article, I almost wish that I'd stayed on the wrong train!
Salerno is a city that in recent years has been revitalized and has become a tourist destination. There are some beautiful things to see, and it is pleasant to stroll through the historic center and along the seafront. Moreover, it can be a good base for visiting the villages of the Amalfi Coast by sea!
