Strolling Along the "Passeggiata del Gelsomino" (Jasmine Walk)
A hidden path for a view of St. Peter's Basilica Dome
Hey everyone! Today, I want to introduce you to one of my favorite spots in Rome for a leisurely walk and stunning views: the Passeggiata del Gelsomino (Jasmine Walk). This charming walkway offers an excellent vantage point for photographing the iconic dome of St. Peter's Basilica, making it a must-visit for any photography enthusiast or lover of beautiful views.
The Passeggiata del Gelsomino is a scenic pathway located near St. Peter's Basilica. It's a hidden gem that provides a peaceful escape from the bustling city streets, allowing you to enjoy a quiet stroll while taking in some of Rome's most breathtaking sights. The walkway is lined with lush greenery and, during the right season, the sweet scent of jasmine (gelsomino) fills the air, adding to the enchanting atmosphere.
Getting to the Passeggiata del Gelsomino is quite easy. If you're near the Vatican, you can reach it on foot. Starting from St. Peter's Square, head towards Via di Porta Cavalleggeri. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with Via Gregorio VII. From there, it's just a short walk up the stairs to the beginning of the Passeggiata del Gelsomino. Another convenient route is through platform 1 of the San Pietro train station.
One of the main reasons I love the Passeggiata del Gelsomino is its unbeatable view of the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. Whether you're a professional photographer or just enjoy snapping pictures with your phone, this spot offers a unique perspective that is perfect for capturing the grandeur of St. Peter's. The dome appears framed by trees and greenery, creating a picture-perfect scene that changes with the seasons and the time of day.
I visit the Passeggiata del Gelsomino often, and every time I go, I'm able to take beautiful photos. The light, the colors, and the atmosphere are always different, making each visit a unique experience. Whether it's early in the morning with the soft glow of dawn, or in the late afternoon with the golden light of sunset, the views are simply stunning.

Another fascinating aspect of this walkway is the view of the entrance to the Vatican Railway. This railway is one of the smallest in the world and seeing the entrance is a reminder of the unique and intriguing aspects of Vatican City. It's a small detail, but it adds a special touch to the experience of strolling along the Passeggiata del Gelsomino.
So this is another detour from the typical tourist routes! Enjoy the peaceful surroundings, take some incredible photos of St. Peter's dome, and maybe catch a glimpse of the Vatican Railway entrance. It's a simple pleasure that adds a lot to the experience of exploring Rome.
Happy exploring and happy shooting!
